‘Siam Silver Showcase – From Past to Present’ showcases contemporary jewelry, ancient silverware and nielloware, silver masterpieces from regions across Thailand, and silver jewelry creations by leading exhibitors in the fair. The collections are complemented with silver jewelry trends to watch in the global market.

Mr. Somdet Susomboon, Director General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, said that “Thailand has been ranked as one of the world’s leading exporters of silver jewelry. This segment has generated revenue of more than 1,556 millions USD per year. Seeing that the arts of silver jewelry and nielloware making are the precious crafts of Thailand, the Department of International Trade Promotion initiated this special exhibition in the 65th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair to present the potential of Thailand’s silver jewelry industry, where visitors can learn more about the local art of silver making, manufacturing capabilities, advanced technologies and the creativity of our artisans and designers.”

The exhibition recounts the history of silver jewelry, silverware and nielloware in the Kingdom of Thailand, from the beginning when silver was used as a currency to trade goods, to the age when it was used to make containers, utensils, offerings, attire and jewelry. The exhibition also refers to the masterpieces of master silversmiths and neilloware masters from the past to present through iconic creations from various communities across  Thailand, from Baan La-Oop in Mae Hong Son, Wua Lai in Chiang Mai, Nan province, Si Satchanalai in Sukhothai, Khwao Sinarin in Surin, and Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

The showcase is divided into 4 zones, namely The Legacy of Silver & Nielloware zone which recounts the history of silver jewelry, silverware and nielloware from past to present, the World’s Silver Trends zone which showcases latest trends in the global market, the Workshops & Demonstrations zone that acts as an open space for demonstrations and workshops led by master craftsmen, and the Silver Jewelry Showcase zone which exhibits selected silver jewelry pieces from the fair’s exhibitors.

Visitors will be inspired by the stories of the silver jewelry-making communities in Nan province that have turned their local know-how into full-scale export businesses. The exhibition also features the silver jewelry collection designed by Thailand’s leading fashion designer and artist Jitsing Somboon, and the intricate silver throne created by Doi Silver craftspeople from Nan province, along with silver jewelry-making and nielloware making demonstrations by master artisans.

The ‘Siam Silver Showcase – From Past to Present’ exhibition will be on view in the 65th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, Challenger 1-3, Impact Exhibition Centre Muang Thong Thani from 25-29 February 2020.
