As a part of its grand celebration for its new “headquarters,” Christie’s Hong Kong will organize the “20th and 21st Century Art Sales.” The inaugural sales at the Christie’s Asia Pacific Headquarters at the Henderson in Hong Kong will be held on 26 and 27 September 2024 with precious art objects by world-class artists, including Thais, up for auction.

Founded in 1766, Christie’s is an international auction house with its representatives active all over the world. Christie’s Hong Kong, which serves as its Asia Pacific headquarters, has just been relocated to Henderson, the state-of-the-art building designed by the world’s top architect firm Zaha Hadid Architects to be a new landmark in Hong Kong.

This new headquarters presents itself as a one-stop hub, featuring exhibition spaces, galleries, and Asia’s most modern auction facilities. Therefore, it is a perfect venue for collectors and lovers of arts and luxury products alike. Its sophisticated design is not just functional and versatile but also sustainable and environmentally friendly. The Christie’s Asia Pacific Headquarters at the Henderson in Hong Kong therefore looks set to become the world’s exemplary auction house.

The relocation of the Christie’s Asia Pacific Headquarters to The Henderson, which is in response to the growing global market demand from the region, underlines Christie’s leadership in and commitment to Asia Pacific.To mark this milestone, Christie’s has planned

a three-month programme of sales, exhibitions, and events between September and November 2024. The programme will kick off with the 20th and 21st Century Art Sales, which is scheduled to take place on 26 and 27 September 2024. Pre-auction viewing of lots or items up for auction will run from 22 to 26 September 2024. Highlights of the “20th and 21St Century Art Sales,” masterpieces by internationally renowned artists or famous contemporary stars, include:

20th and 21st Century Art Sales
“Les canots amarrés” (1887) oil-on-canvas painting by “Vincent Van Gogh”: Painted in 1887, this item has never made a public appearance for three decades already.
    “Nymphéas” (painted between 1897 and 1899) by “Claude Monet”: One of the legendary Water Lilies paintings, which were created about 125 years ago, will enter an auction for the first time.
    “05.06.80 – Triptyque” (1980) by Zao Wou-Ki: Painted by the Father of Chinese modern art, this oil on canvas is a masterpiece with historical significance. It will go up for auction for the first time.
    “9-XII-71 #216” (1971) or Blue Pointillist by Kim Whan-ki: The painter is dubbed a pioneer of Korean abstraction. During his glorious period in New York, this blue dot painting has earned biggest kudos. etc.

    Also as outstanding are masterpieces by leading Thai artists, such as:

    “Untitled” (1966) by Thawan Duchanee: Boasting the distinctive signature of the late Thai national artist, this oil on canvas hails from his time in Paris and has never been shown to the public before.
    “Universe” (1972) by Pratuang Emjaroen: This oil on canvas was created by an exceptional master, whose reputation has been solid in both Thailand and overseas.
    “Untitled” (1963) by Tang Chang: Ranking among Thailand’s first abstract artists,
    the creator will make an auction debut with his epoxy marine paint on canvas.
    “Shore Scene with Boats, Rocks and Scaffold-Like Poles” (1961) oil on canvas and
    Buddha (1967) collage and tempera on canvas by Damrong Wong-Uparaj: He is one of Thailand’s most influential artists and his paintings will participate in Evening Sales for the first time.
    “The Yellow MET” (2017) by Natee Utarit: The creator of this impressive oil on canvas is an internationally renowned contemporary artists from Thailand. etc.

        “Prapavadee Sophonpanich,” Managing Director of Christie’s (CLMVT) Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, said: “The inclusion of Thai artistic works at this inaugural sale reflects the international recognition of Thai artists and their impressive works. Bidders and other participants from all over the world have shown much interest in Thais’ works of art, some of which making impressive records at world-class auctions.

        Among them are “Scream of Sorrowful” by Thawan Duchanee and “The Symphony of the Universe” by Pratuang Emjaroen. We expect precious and distinctive Thai art objects to win positive response from global collectors and art lovers at the upcoming auction too.”
